In our family, we decided a couple of years back that we would stop or at least minimize the gifts for Christmas and instead put some of that extra money to buy yummy food for the festivities. I love this because one of my pet peeves is receiving something I don’t need or want, or worse, I will not even use JUST for the sake of it. I’m also the kind who gifts away all my good ideas during the year, whether it’s a holiday, someone’s birthday, or a regular Thursday. The exceptions to this rule were my nephew and his father. The nephew because he is a child, the only child in the family even, and it’s fun to open new toys as well so he wouldn’t be left out of the tradition in school. His father because he didn’t grow up in the same abundance as us, so if he can have a little bit of belated Christmas joy, so be it.
This year it would only be mum, my boyfriend, my cousin, my friend and one of my aunts. Ideally we would have kept our new tradition but my cousin is a bit of a traditionalist and really wanted gifts even if small… So we did! These are the things I got this year;
Even though these are my gifts some of the things that brought me most joy were the presents I gave other people, my mum calls me chanchita(piggy) and my boyfriend gave it a Korean twist and now calls me ggul(because he thought piggy sounded to harsh haha) which funnily enough sounds a bit like gull(et) in Swedish which would be equivalent to sweetie. So because we have a couple more months left of long distance until he moves here he got two piggy things from Flying tiger one plushie and one (dog) toy that we regretted not buying when we were in London. I feel like that squeaky pig toy will de-escalate any future argument or be a good come hither bell haha
